Words by LargeUp Crew—
If there’s anything we learned about Addis Pablo and his crew Suns of Dub in the last year, it’s that they are prolific. Following a busy 2013 that ended with a Major Lazer-produced mixtape, our Meditations documentary series and a performance with The Roots at the Okayplayer Holiday Jam, Addis is kicking off 2014 with a trio of limited-edition vinyl, pre-release singles, “Walls of Jericho,” “One Love, One Heart, One Family” and “Wareika Mystic,” via Holland’s Jah Solid Rock label.
The tracks, which you can preview in the Soundcloud below, are available for purchase on 7″ via Only Roots, the French distributor behind the recent reissues of Augustus Pablo’s Rockers label.
The singles are a preview of Addis’ live band melodica album In My Father’s House which is also coming from Jah Solid Rock, the label behind recent LPs from Binsley Forde and Chezidek, in late February. The album, which features Chezidek, Earl 16 and deejay Exile D Brave (performing in a Big Youth style as “Jah Exile”), fuses a range of sounds expressing different energies and periods of reggae.
Late January will also see the release of an In My Father’s House documentary featuring Addis and selector Gabre Selassie of Kingston Dub Club/Rockers Sound Station.
