Words by Jesse Serwer—
LargeUp regulars may know DJ Rampage as a purveyor of fine reggae mixtapes and selector on our radio program The LargeUp Sessions, but our bredrin has been holding down Lauryn Hill as her tour DJ for the nearly five years. With Lauryn gearing up to release her first new studio album in over a decade and a half, Letters to Exile, Rampage has been making some high-profile appearances alongside Ms. Hill, including her first televised performance in three years Friday night on David Letterman.
Lauryn (whose last TV appearance by our recollection was a Bob Marley cover medley during Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’s week-long Marley tribute) performed a cover of The Beatles’ “Something,” as part of Letterman‘s week-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Fab Four’s arrival in the United States. Watch the video below, and check this week’s Mixtape Mondays for a mixtape premiere from Rampage to set off Lauryn’s upcoming performance (‘longside Jr. Gong, Stephen Marley, Shaggy, Sean Paul and Chronixx) at the 21st edition of the 9 Mile Festival in Miami this Saturday.
