A 23-year-old deejay from Kingston, Jamaica, Chedda is the son of ’80s/’90s dancehall icon Daddy Screw. If his own voice sounds familiar, you may have heard him on Trevor Off Key’s Vybz Kartel parody “Fake Jeans Admit It” or “Like A Pro,” last year’s collaboration with Nyanda of Brick and Lace and The Wizard (producer of Mr. Lexx’s “Rugu Rugu” and Jesse Royal’s “Wadada”).
Over a trap-leaning beat from The Wizard, Chedda dubs himself the “Original Don” on his latest tune, calling himself “a young Shabba” while referencing Super Cat and Ninjaman. His flow reminds us more of a young Aidonia, though; despite the nods to the past, his sound definitely looks to the future. Download “Original Don” below, and tell us what you think.
