Words by Jesse Serwer—
In an unexpected, but welcome, clashing of worlds, an old LargeUp friend, Mr. Vegas, and a recent obsession, Amara La Negra, have aligned with one another. Vegas dropped the dancehall bubbler “Give It To Har” last summer, earning him a spot on our countdown of 2013’s toppa top dancehall singles; for the remix, he reached across the Caribbean to the Dominican (via Miami) sensation who caught our eyes and ears with the baile funk/reggaeton/Miami Bass/dancehall amalgam “Ayy,” last year. (Read more about Amara in our 2014 Artists to Watch list).
