With last week’s Carnival madness officially wrapped up, it’s time to get right back to work this Monday. It’s almost time for our first SXSW Showcase this Wednesday in Austin, and of course we’re keeping the music and energy flowing at Mixtape Mondays with some dancehall, tropical and bass directions on deck via Italy, Miami and Los Angeles. Run chune:
Kalibandulu, Brand New Collection vol.38: The murderers from Milan are back with the latest volume in their up-to-the-time mix CD series Brand New Collection. Kalibandulu stay laced with the newest impacting tunes straight from JA with this series as the platform for unleashing all this new music to the world. The big new settingz from Cham & Mavado lead things off before running through all the necessary new dancehall riddims and singles from the Caribbean to Italy and back again. Grab it. Stream and download below, tracklist here.
DJ Craze, Craze Lion V.2: Blaze up every lighter for this one from the turntable badman DJ Craze, who’s been dipping into some dancehall and reggae territory lately via his lol-worthy Craze Lion moniker. All jokes aside dude never half-steps with the mixes, combining razor sharp cuts with tough selection and custom edits. As you’d also expect there’s plenty of bass here from the Miami general, with some cuts from his Slow Roast Records camp and most recent endorsee Ape Drums. Press play and tun up. Stream and download below, tracklist here.
Captain Planet, Endless Carnival: As we proceed, we’ve got more diverse island vibes from wicked DJ/producer Captain Planet. This mix via the folks at Stunner of the Month digs into Capt. Planet’s love of all things tropical (let’s not forget his flip of “Ka Kong” we premiered) blending Latin and Caribbean music of all shapes and colors with modern twists and turns. With salute to Carnival in the Caribbean, Mardi Gras in the US, and, as he says, a million other historically related parties around the world, you’re treated to versions from Brazil, Trinidad, Panama, Dominican Republic, Ghana, Colombia, Angola and beyond on this tape.
