Long before he became an official member of Major Lazer, we already knew Jillionaire as a musical renaissance man who was connecting the dots between the Caribbean and various worldwide electronic music scenes with his remixes, eclectic DJ sets—and the occasional LargeUp listicle. Now, the man we’ve long known as “Trini Chris” is branching back out on his own with the launch of an eclectic new label, Feel Up Records.
The Brooklyn-based imprint officially launches April 22, with the release of Modern Thunder, the debut full-length from Toronto’s Grand Analog. Our partners over at Okayplayer recently premiered “Howl Like Wolves,” a catchy introduction to the kitchen-sink hip-hop sound of Guyanese-Canadian brothers Odario and Ofield Wiliams.
The rest of the roster reflects Chris’ eclectic tastes and influences: upcoming releases will come from Brazil-based producer/DJ Teleseen, Brooklyn-based indie duo Clementine & The Galaxy, and frequent Jillionaire collaborator Richie Berretta. In addition to official releases, Feel Up has launched a series called “Free Ting Friday,” offering free downloads of tracks, remixes and more from Jillionaire and friends, a Youtube series called “In the Studio” and a monthly mix series, Feel Up Monthly Radio (listen to the first installment, from Teleseen, here).
