DJ Prince is getting ready to drop his debut LP Test My Sound on May 13th — to celebrate, he’s giving us an exclusive preview, with the track “Shottas” featuring Brooklyn hip-hop standby Sean Price available exclusively from LargeUp.com.
With a name straight out of basement lore, the track opens with allusions to classic dancehall tracks, and then opens into a more classic-sounding hip-hop flow. It fits in well with Prince’s overall inspiration, which is a coherent marriage of hip-hop and dancehall. He debuted the concept with a mixtape of the same title last fall, telling us that to make the tape, he “stole Missy’s swag and drank some of Mad Lion’s herbal roots tonic.”
Now he’s working to get everyone hyped for Test My Sound—just last week he released a video for “Just A Lil Bit” off the mixtape over at Okayplayer. Prince will be celebrating the upcoming LP with a listening party this Thursday—don’t forget to RSVP. Listen to the track below, and let us know what you think!
