LargeUp Premiere: Third World + Capleton – “Good Hearted People (Dub)”

Words by Natalie Weiner—

Third World may have just celebrated 40 years together as a band last year, but they certainly don’t seem like they’re approaching middle age. Continuing to release music and tour internationally even today, the legendary reggae ensemble is busy promoting the upcoming release of their 21st (!) studio album, Under The Magic Sun, out June 10. To mark the occasion, founding member Cat Coore will be paying us a visit on this Thursday’s edition of the LargeUp Sessions—and we have an exclusive dub remix to share (courtesy of the Dub Architect) of their single with Capleton, “Good Hearted People.”

Coore, a classically trained cellist who’s been known to bust out a little Bach at Third World shows, has definitely earned his place on our Top Ten Reggae Guitarists list. With gigs in some of reggae’s most famous bands—he also played with Inner Circle before founding Third World—as well as a solo career, Coore has helped expand the genre’s classic sound with his pop-, soul-, and rock-influenced playing.

His continuing work in Third World comes in the wake of frontman William “Bunny Rugs” Clarke’s passing this past February—the group had already started working on this release prior to his passing. “Good Hearted People,” originally released in 2010, features Rugs on vocals alongside Capleton—listen below, and don’t forget to tune in this Thursday, May 15, on RadioLily.com.
