Chedda, whose Supercat- and Ninjaman-referencing “Original Don” premiered here earlier this year, has hooked up once more with producer The Wizard for a tune bridging dancehall’s future with its past.
“Pull It Up,” which samples Johnny Osbourne‘s “Buddy Bye,” isn’t the first tune to update that track for a new era. 77Klash did something similar with 2008’s “Mad Again,” an electro banger which featured Osbourne and Skerrit Bwoy in a video that was clearly a major influence on Major Lazer. But “Pull It Up,” with its dubstep squeals and 808/trap drum programming, puts a fresh new sheen on Osbourne’s dancehall classic that’s sure to resonate with the new generation of listeners raised on Major Lazer.
