LargeUp Premiere: Gappy Ranks + P-Money – The Baddest EP

We can’t get enough of Gappy Ranks and P-Money’s hip-hop/dancehall banger “Baddest”—and apparently they can’t either. Following on the heels of Monday’s “Baddest” video premiere, the duo are dropping a collaborative EP, also titled The Baddest, tomorrow, and they’ve given us an exclusive sneak peek.

The EP features four brand-new, previously unheard tunes plus a traphall flip of “Baddest” from Slow Roast’s Ape Drums, and another remix featuring vocals from New Zealand rapper Sid Diamond. Gappy’s cockney and yardie swagger and P-Money’s eclectic yet consistently bass-heavy hip-hop production style are merged seamlessly throughout, most notably on the Shabba Ranks-sampling trunk rattler “Fire Shot.” (We just KNOW our selectors dem are gonna flip for that one.) It’s been quiet lately for dancehall/hip-hop hybrids considering the surge in such material seen over the last two years, but these two are definitely carrying the torch forward.

Gappy bigs up his “Mamma” over a radio-friendly, 808-based tune by that name, and reps his set on the crew-love anthem “My Crew,” but it’s the breezy, Brazilian-flavored “Get Away,” just in time for the Rio World Cup, that could be the breakout tune here. (We’re riding for the Shabba one, though…)

Stream the whole thing below, and cop it on iTunes tomorrow.
