Honorable Mention: Masters at Work featuring Denise Belfon “Work”
This one didn’t necessarily cross over on any kind of a national level and in fact it originated outside the Caribbean, but if you were in the streets in NYC in 2001 you likely remember the tune, whether you were checking for soca or not. Masters at Work, the NYC-based production duo of Kenny Dope and “Little” Louie Vegas, tapped Trini winin’ queen Denise “Saucy Wow” Belfon for this fusion of house music and soca, recorded years before EDM and soca became regular bedfellows.
