There aren’t many footwear labels out there as timeless as Clarks. Founded in Britain during the 19th century, the company has weathered through generations of change and trends, while still maintaining a devotion to their iconic boot styles and silhouettes. One style in particular that transcended into the fashion and pop culture world a long time ago is the Wallabee. The list of musicians who have penned a tune referencing the popular “cheesebottoms” is countless: Slick Rick, SuperCat, Rick Ross, WuTang, Vybz Kartel and Popcaan just to name a few. This fall, Clarks is giving us something new to talk about as they introduce their latest collaboration, with NYC-based streetwear brand, Staple.
The package comes in three styles; all modeled after the original Wallabee boot. There’s a tan tumbled leather version with the Staple pigeon logo on the outer sides; a lowtop black leather version; and an original version of khaki featuring a white leather upper and a red outer sole. Two of the three styles are labeled under Clarks Sportswear, which feature a more flexible and tractable rubber outersole.
“Wallies” are a boot so traditional that it would be hard to give a pass to anyone who thinks the shoes need “remodeling” in the first place. But, needless to say, the crew over at Staple give the shoes just the right twist. The shoes look comfortable and stylish and we’re interested to see how the streets take to ’em. The package is being sold online through Staple’s website, and at Reed Space in lower Manhattan—if there’s any left, that is. Check out some photos below, followed by a behind-the-scenes video on the collaboration.
