Words by Jesse Serwer
Our good friend, long-time LargeUp contributor and Major Lazer frontman Walshy Fire just inboxed us with the video for “Draw We Out” from Antigua’s Promise No Promises, along with this note: “I think I am doing well with discovering dope shit out of the Caribbean.” Walshy being the dude that first put us on to Chronixx--and helped bring Jesse Royal and Suns of Dub to global attention–and just that dude in general, we just had to stop what we were doing, and take a look.
Even if didn’t come with Walshy’s stamp of approval, we’d still be quick to endorse “Draw We Out.” Shot by music producer and first-time video director Justin “Jus Bus” Nation, the video takes us right into the heart of St. John’s, Antigua, showing all sides of the capital city. The track itself has been steadily gaining play on radio stations across the Caribbean since appearing on Promise No Promises’ No Can Do album, and it’s easy to hear why: The modern twist on one-drop reggae (produced by Ziggy Blacks Productions) is right on time with the latest wave of sounds coming from JA, while the Guyana-born vocalist’s lyrics offer a timeless message about keeping a positive mentality. We can definitely see this one going worldwide.
Catch the video below, tell us what you think and, if you like what you see, be sure to pass it on.
