New York DJ duo Electric Punanny has joined forces with the “Chainsaw Man” Chi Ching Ching to remix a song that, inexplicably, hasn’t yet gotten its fair share of dancefloor spins—Nicki Minaj‘s “Trini Dem Girls.” The dancehall-inspired hip-hop tune off Nicki’s latest album, The Pinkprint, is the Queens MC’s nod to her first home, Trinidad, complete with copious pum-pum and verses from soon-to-be-star, Lunch Money Lewis. With “Hot Gyal,” their second original offering, MeLo-X and JSMN (Jasmine Solano) take the dancehall influence to the next level, reworking the beat and bringing in Ching to bruk it down on the mic.
The remix comes after Chi Ching Ching and Electric Punanny joined forces for an unplanned session at Webster Hall’s House Party weekly, during the deejay’s visit to New York last year. An affiliate of Popcaan’s Unruly Gang and a staple on Kingston’s dancehall scene, Ching is quickly gaining international renown for his distinctive voice and personality (check out his cameo in this documentary on the dancehall crew) thanks in large part to his infectious recent anthem, “Way Up!”
