Last year, we brought some much-needed bashment party vibes out to South by Southwest, with the first SxSW edition of New York’s famed Rice and Peas party. The event, which featured Bunji Garlin, Fay-Ann Lyons, Jesse Royal, Screechy Dan and Los Rakas, made a huge splash, even gaining coverage in Rolling Stone thanks to Bunji’s electrifying performance.
This year, we’re teaming with presenters RDPR, Winnie K. Mgmt. and Coyah Productions for a full-on live music showcase featuring some of the top names in Caribbean music. Machel Montano, Gyptian, Mr. Vegas, Laza Morgan and Nyla highlight a lineup which also includes LargeUp’s own DJ Gravy and Deejay Theory on the turntables. It all happens Friday night March 20th, from 8pm-2am at The Palm Door at Sixth & Patio in downtown Austin, Texas, as part of a double bill with the Sounds From Africa showcase featuring D’banj, Davido, Wizkid, Ice Prince, Sarkodie, R2bees, Samini, Victoria Kimani and Serge Beynaud, happening concurrently (In the same venue!)
Get yourself prepared for this massive event with parts 1 and 2 of our Machel Montano video series below, as well as some clips from past LargeUp events with Mr. Vegas, and make sure to plan your SxSW accordingly.
