Protoje’s third album Ancient Future dropped yesterday, debuting at No. 1 on the iTunes reggae chart. In full grind mode, the deejay held an album release party at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston on Monday night with cameos from Ancient Future guests Chronixx, Kabaka Pyramid and Sevana, then caught a flight to NYC, where he launched the album with an exclusive listening session at Manhattan’s Meridian 23 hosted by LargeUp last night.
Next up, it’s on to SOBs, where he’ll be performing live with his band, Indiggnation, this Sunday March 15th, for the first time in NYC.
Yannick “The Therapist” Reid followed Protoje during the making of the album, following the artist into the studio in Jamaica with producer Winta James—and legendary musicians Earl “Chinna” Smith and Glen Browne— and on the road in Barcelona, capturing candid moments like a freestyle over DJ Khaled’s “I’m On One.” Watch the Ancient Future behind-the-scenes documentary below, and check out some pics from Monday night’s launch at the Pegasus.
