There’s few, if any, reggae artists from whom new music is more anticipated right now than Chronixx. But the singjay has been quiet on the new-release front so far this year, as he focuses on touring and, presumably, his follow-up to last year’s Dread and Terrible EP. Today, though, we’ve got a world premiere of what is only his second new release in 2015.

“Play Some Roots” is a soulful reggae tune with a bluesy piano lead and a vocal performance that falls somewhere between Toots Hibbert and Michael Jackson. Silly Walks Discotheque, who previously collaborated with Chronixx on “Smile Jamaica,” are behind the riddim, called Ram Jam, which drops April 17th.

Run tune on “Play Some Roots” as well as “Love and Be Loved,” up-and-coming artist Clay’s contribution to the Ram Jam riddim, below, listen to a mega-mix preview of the full riddim release here, and look out for the premiere of Shaggy’s “Don’t Stop” right here next week.
