LargeUp Premiere: Mink Jo – “To The Side”

From the newly-launched, Sean Paul-affiliated Brand New Machine label (and the crew behind the long-running Kingston and NYC parties by the same name) comes a young minx named Mink. Having already caused a swarm of attention with her debut single “No Friend Zone” featuring Konshens—on which many people mistook her for Rihanna—Mink Jo offers the second leak from her BOY.GIRL.LOVE EP due out this summer.

“To The Side,” on Dre Day Productions’ sizzling Wet Weather riddim, sits right in the middle of pop, hip-hop and dancehall and yeah, there’s no way around the Rihanna comparisons, but there’s room for more than one bad-gyal pop princess in the Caribbean, especially one from Jamaica. Watch the lyric video below, purchase “No Friend Zone” here and, if you’re in JA, catch Mink Jo and Konshens at the “No Friend Zone” single release party Thursday, April 30th, at Kingston’s Cru Bar & Kitchen.
