Direct from London and one of our favorite reggae producers out of the U.K., Curtis Lynch of Necessary Mayhem Records, comes a genre-blending new tune called “Let It Go.”
Featuring vocals from British soul queen Shola Ama, fiery lady dancehall deejay Stush, and MC Big Fris (of grime collective Boy Better Know), this one touches a lot of musical bases. Lyrically, however, each tackles the same topic—the dreaded “friend zone” —bringing new meaning to “three the hard way.” With a sweet, smooth, dubwise riddim at it’s heart, it’s still got that classic reggae feel we known and love from Necessary Mayhem, offering a great introduction to the producer’s expansive new vehicle, the Curtis Lynch Project.
“I grew up on sound system culture and always liked combination dubs, so now I get to do the same thing with recorded tracks,” Lynch tells us of the track and project.
Run “Let It Go” below, cop it on iTunes tomorrow, watch the making-of video here and hear more music from Necessary Mayhem here.
