On “Dub Pirate,” the latest offering from Jamaica’s Juke Boxx Productions, Tarrus Riley, Mad Cobra, Ninjaman and the original Joe Lickshot play a tag team of soundclash swashbuckling buccaneers.
The combination tune, a refix of the Real Rock riddim, is a message to dibi dibi soundbwoys held together by Singy Singy on the chorus, while 90s-era dons Ninja and Cobra provide razor-sharp lyrics, and dancehall legend Lickshot provides his classic vocal sound effects.
Ninja and Mad Cobra have each seen a bit of a comeback recently. The lyrical Don Gorgon’s toughest offering in years was “Ninja Mi Ninja” and Cobra is featured on “Night Riders,” a just-released Major Lazer single with 2 Chainz, Pusha T and Travis Scott. Joe Lickshot has also seen a resurgence, appearing on a number of original dancehall tracks recently, including “Real Don” with Mr. Vegas.
Listen to “Dub Pirate” below and be sure to pack this one in your dub case before your next clash.
