Creeping has been a recurring theme in dancehall and hip-hop lyrics for as long as the genres have existed. Yet, in the last few years such songs seem to have reached a sort of critical mass, perhaps becoming even more prevalent than songs about love of the faithful variety. For the last year and change, rapper hip-hop crooner Ty Dolla $ign’s “Paranoid” and Kranium‘s “Nobody Has To Know” have been two of the most ubiquitous such tracks. In a fitting union, the two have joined forces on a remix to the latter which celebrates Kranium’s newly minted deal with Atlantic Records (also home to Ty Dolla $ign), making him the only dancehall artist currently signed to a major record label.
As you probably know, “Nobody Has To Know” has been around for a while, inching closer to pop crossover status since breaking on New York radio over a year and a half ago. And speaking of remixes, we definitely have to credit our dude Kenny Meez for helping this along with his “Rah Rah” remix blending the “Nobody Has To Know” a capella with the beat from Chris Brown’s “Show Me.”
The remix with Ty Dolla $ign extends its life a little longer and further bolsters the crossover potential of a song that has been the biggest thing running for dancehall in the States since early last year. Time will tell if it finally becomes that sort of summer anthem that impacts audiences everywhere, not just those in dancehall-friendly markets. Let us know if you’re feeling it in the comments…
