Words by DJ Arems
Welcome back to Selector’s Choice, our weekly spotlight on what your favorite DJs are holding in their record bags and hard drives right now.
Yoww, this is DJ Arems outta Vancouver representing the Faction Sound Crew. Look out for a new Faction mix on Sirius XM Dancehall Saturday Night May 30th, or come catch me on tour in Miami and NYC in late June. Here’s a few tracks that have been getting heavy rotations from me wherever I run chunes in Canada and worldwide.
Vybz Kartel – Dancehall Remix ft Konshens (Arems Edit)
The remix to Kartel’s “Dancehall’ dropped recently, featuring a whole slew of artists, but it didn’t stand up to the original. The exception was a verse from Konshens at the end of the remix that could almost hold a flame to that of the World Boss’. I put this quick edit together that features Vybz’s first verse, with Konshens’ next, to add some heat to what could have been a big riddim for 2015.

Mink Jo ft Konshens – No Friend Zone
New comer Mink Jo offers some sultry vocals on this dance floor filler that features Konshens delivering the slack lyrics we’ve come to expect from the Don Daddy. Girls love this track, and you can expect instant slow wines a gwan when ever you drop it.
Gully Bop ft Stylo G – Who She Want
“Who She Want” brings back the 90’s dancehall feel that everyone loves with Gully Bop and Stylo G going back and forth arguing over who’s the bigger gallis. On the first few listens you’d think this is strictly a Gully Bop song as his lyrics and vocals stand out heavily over Stylo’s. A super catchy song that wins over any dancehall crowd.
Love Taps ft Maya Killtron – Back For More (Brother In Arms Remix)
Making big waves out of New York, the Love Taps production team of Self Help and fellow Faction Sound member DJ Tanner recently released their debut original single “Back for More.” Brother In Arms, the production duo featuring J-Boogie and Deejay Theory (also of Faction Sound), took this Love Taps banger and smoothed it out with an incredible remix on the laid-back tropical vibes tip.
Rihanna – Bitch Better Have My Money (Diplo and Grand Theft Remix)
Diplo and Grand Theft took this instant club favorite and made it way better. What was originally a singalong anthem with okay production has become a huge banger with an amped up beat that will make you wanna rob people.
Popcaan – Unruly Prayer
Finally, this new offering from Popcaan reminds me of last year’s big chune ‘Everything Is Nice’. It took me a couple of listens to catch the vibe but now it’s on repeat. Popcaan’s vocals float over the simple synth production with no drums that will put you in relax mode quick.
