Major Lazer and Chronixx are easily two of the strongest and most visible brands in dancehall and reggae music right now. And both acts have huge summers planned, with Major Lazer set to release its third album, Peace is the Mission, on June 1st, and Chronixx already out on a US tour filled with massive gigs like The Roots Picnic and Governor’s Ball (and that’s just the next two Sundays…)
If you recall, Chronixx got his first buss pon an international level with his Major Lazer-presented mixtape Start a Fire (a mixtape which premiered right here on LargeUp), and now he’s teamed up with Diplo, Walshy and Jillionaire again for the suitably-named “Blaze Up The Fire,” off Peace is the Mission. Borrowing elements of some classic dancehall riddims from the late ’80s/early ’90s digital era—as channeled through Major Lazer’s EDM machinery— the track is just about what you’d expect from the first commercial collaboration between these two acts. Sample “Blaze Up The Fire” below, and share your thoughts in the comments.
