Swedish producer Nils Posse (of Jamtech Foundation) recently spent seven months in Havana, recording Cuban artists for new project, Bassic Division. An instrumental featuring Cuban trumpet player Alejandro Delgado. “The Musical Mission” is the second track thus far from the future dub project bridging the sounds of Jamaica and Cuba. (We previously debuted “Raggamuffin Bussiness,” a track featuring UK deejay Mr. Williamz here in January).
“I met with Alejandro through common friends in Havana,” Nils tells us of the collaboration with Delgado. “He plays in Interactivo, one of the best live bands in Cuba right now, who play every Wednesday at the Berthold Brecht Night Club in Havana, a great spot for local music.” Of Bassic Division, Nils says: “A lot of people are complaining that reggae sounds the same so I wanted to create something fresh, a mix of old and new, a mix of programmed sub basses with live musicians.”
Stream “The Musical Mission” below, and look out for upcoming Bassic Division tracks featuring Bounty Killer and Kabaka Pyramid.
