Mixtape Mondays: Deejay Theory, Safari Sound x Klubb Solid, Jester

Words by Desmond Alphonso

This is your boy Desmond Alphonso filling in for the newlywed Deejay Theory this week on #MixtapeMondays. That’s right, ladies, Mr. Theory is officially off the market, as of today. Somehow, amidst his nuptials, he found time to drop off a new mix, which is where we start things off this week.

Deejay Theory, #NNMF Summer 2015 Mix

For each of the last few years, our own Deejay Theory has been putting together the official promo mixtape for California’s Northern Nights Music Festival. For this year’s mix, he runs an eclectic set of tunes ranging from I Octane and T Smallz’s newly-released “Fire Dancer” and Dre Island’s “Way Up” to some smooth (and we presume new) dance remixes of classics like Biggie and 112’s “Sky’s The Limit” and Kanye’s “Touch The Sky.” Things might veer all over the map, but it’s all firmly rooted in the tropical bashment style Theory’s become known for with his mixes and original production. Stream and download below:

Safari Sound x Klubb Solid, Summer Selektions Part 1

Our friends from Sweden’s Safari Sound are always putting together solid mixes, and this time they’ve teamed up with their countrymen over at Solid Radio for something a little different. This mix is eclectic to say the least, with the Klubb Solid crew’s Side One consisting of both classic and current reggae (and some real rarities like Nikey Fungus’ “Glamourous Girls”) spiced with a few high-energy remixes, while Safari’s Side Two is more of a dancehall ting…sorta. Press play here to hear what we mean…

DJ Jester, Summer Soca Preview

It’s soca season again, with artists from across the Caribbean dropping power and groovy anthem ahead of Summer carnivals in St. Vincent, Grenada, Barbados and beyond. Jester, from Canada’s G98.7 keeps us up to date with all of the sounds coming out of the Eastern Caribbean right now, starting off with Crop Over anthems from Biggie Irie, Fadda Fox and King Bubba FM. Not to be outdone, Trinidad is well represented, with original tracks and remixes from the likes of Machel Montano, Kerwin DuBois and Nadia Batson, to name a few. Stream, download and get the track listing here:
