We’re already into the second half of the year and you’re probably thinking, wow, how is it July already? Time is flying! It’s time to slow down, reflect for a second and be in the moment. Well, we have the perfect backing track for this sentiment.
“Sweetest Dub” is an exclusive free download from the recent Suns of Dub meets Mighty Crown mixtape. It’s a reworked melodica/vocal dub of Lauryn Hill’s “Sweetest Thing,” one of the standouts from the soundtrack of the 1997 film Love Jones. The dub adheres close to the original, but the smooth vibes are now mostly provided by Suns of Dub‘s Addis Pablo. His melodica, which weaves in and out playing the lead parts, steps back only when Ms. Hill’s occasional vocals are brought in, almost in a conversational sense. The pairing of Lauryn Hill’s voice with the introspective melodica sound is indeed one of the sweetest things we’ve ever known. The dub version was mixed by Ras Jammy of Suns of Dub and the Far East Rulerz, Mighty Crown.
