Welcome back to Selector’s Choice, our weekly look inside the record bags and hard drives of Caribbean music’s top DJs. This week we’re getting an early start and taking things to Antigua, where the Wadadli massive are counting down the days until J’Ouvert next week. We asked DJ Jime, selector behind some of Antigua & Barbuda’s top soca mixes and fetes, to run down the biggest soca tunes for this year’s Antigua Carnival season.

Whats up guys, I’m DJ Jime from Antigua and it’s a blessing and honor to give the Selector’s Choice for the hit soca songs of Antigua’s Carnival 2015. Over the last few years our party scene has taken off, and with it has gone my free time, but our soca this year has improved by leaps and bounds. A lot of new faces delivered music that I always gotta keep in rotation when it’s soca time. Here are my picks for the year’s top soca anthems out of Antigua.

Boasta—Old Time Something

Although Boasta is in his second year in the soca arena in Antigua, this song has definitely put him on the map. The song itself gives you a taste of where soca came from and where it is now, and with a hook that instructs you to “move to the left, right, take a little wine and jump to di side” it’s definitely a Road March contender.

Tian Winter—Ms. Set Good

Tian never fails to deliver on a ladies anthem for our Carnival. “Ms. Set Good,” the title track from GBM’s Set Good Riddim, takes the evolving sound of soca down to 110 BPMs, with an infusion of sounds from across the world. When this song plays, the ladies respond, IN A MAJOR WAY.

Menace-Unruly

Having known Menace personally for a number of years, I’m proud of what he has produced for us this season. After winning the Road March here last year, he’s followed up with this heavy bass-infused track. “Unruly” is the song that gets you really wild in a party or on the road, a definite banger.

Ricardo Drue–Professional

After “Vagabond” took the soca world by storm, Ricardo did not disappoint us and came back with the alcohol anthem of the year that will no doubt sweep the globe again. When he asks to “Show me what you drinking,” it’s an amazing sight to see all of the cups in the room go up in the air.

Claudette Peters—Nasty

“Nasty” has been a ladies’ favorite from the first day of release. Claudette’s edgy vocals add to the song’s message that she’s not changing her feting, wicked wining or misbehaving ways. I’m pretty sure when you hear “Dem Say Ah Nasty,” you can imagine how our Dadli girls act.
