Bridging the gap between current and classic dancehall (and Jamaica and New York City) producers Ricky Blaze and DJ Norie (Anything Goes/Power 105) have brought Wayne Wonder and Konshens together for the first time with “Girl Like You.” With its vinyl pops and one-note piano melody, Ricky’s Bashment Gal riddim sounds as if it could have been pulled from the early ’90s, while the combination of Konshens and Wayne Wonder evokes Wayne ‘s early ’90s collaborations with Buju Banton. But this anthem for “go-getter gyals” would be a big tune in any era.
