In keeping with their tradition of merging soca with other elements of the Caribbean Diaspora, production duo Jus Now has enlisted frequent collaborator Bunji Garlin and rapper Ms. Dynamite for their new single, “Cyah Help It.”
Known for soulful hip-hop tracks like “Dy-Na-Mi-Tee,” Ms. Dynamite, a London native with a Jamaican father, has crossed into the dancehall arena recently with guest appearances on tracks like “Sweat” from Major Lazer’s Free the Universe, released back in 2013. Now with the help of Jus Now, we see the songwriter lending her talent to some ragga soca.
With lyrical chops that almost parallel the Viking of Soca’s, Ms. Dynamite holds her on against the uptempo, bass-heavy “Cyah Help It,” the lead single for Jus Now’s upcoming EP by the same name, out Oct. 23 on Feel Up Records. With the rawness in her vocals and commanding lyricism, she lives up to her name and proves just how adept Jus Now is in identifying talent for their mission to take Caribbean music to new heights.
