Badman Rave: The Best Reggae x EDM Tunes of 2015

Words by Noise Cans

I was honored to be asked for the second year to give my Top 10 Badman Rave tunes for 2015.  For those of you who might not know or didn’t see my post from last year, Badman Rave generally refers to “reggae mixed with EDM.” This year, I felt there was a growing amount of producers and artists experimenting with Caribbean sounds from the mainstream to the underground, and this makes me smile. And I have to add myself to that list, as I released my debut single for Dim Mak Records, “Bucka” featuring Lady Bee and Mr. Vegas.

That being said, all of these are wicked tunes, but there has to be an order, so let’s run chune.

10. Future Fambo – “Bloodclaute Song” (The Kemist X MVL$ Remix)

Future Fambo scored big with this one. Already one of the biggest dancehall tunes of 2015, it was only fitting that a dope “Bloodclaute” remix should follow. Normally known for shelling out the lyrics, The Kemist collabed with MVL$ to create this monster remix.

9. ETC!ETC! and Salvatore Ganacci – “Money” feat Hawkeye

Fresh off the release of his new Dim Mak  EP Wicked, ETC! ETC! leads with this smash single “Money” alongside Salvatore Ganacci, with catchy vocals from Jamaican veteran Hawkeye.   Money afi make!!!

8. Jillionaire & Swick – “Ants Nest” feat. T.O.K.

The homie Jillionaire and Australia’s Swick teamed up with versatile dancehall act T.O.K. to create this bass-dropping club shaker.

7. Choppa Dunks x CRVFTSMEN – “More Fiyah”

More Fiyah, More Fiyah. This one from my fellow Bermudian Choppa Dunks and the CRVFTSMEN crew offers exactly what the title suggests.

6. Johnny Roxx – Policeman

Zurichs’s own Johnny Roxx, has been a fixture in this space for a few years. Frequently working with and producing Caribbean artist in this space it is no surprise that he is back with another club banger Policeman.

5.Bad Royale – Move Like feat. Richie Loop

I was a little late to Bad Royale but, as they as say, better late then never.  Since becoming aware of them, they have quickly become favorites of mine.  Having so many wicked tunes to chose from, it was honestly hard for me to pick. The title track from their Move Like EP is a non-stop adrenaline rush. With Richie Loop providing the intense, dark vocals, this is definitely one of my favorites to play right now.

4. D’Maduro and Tropkillaz feat. Bounty Killer – “Murdara”

Some of my favorite producers in the game Tropkillaz are at it again with “Murdara”. Teaming up with producer D’Maduro this bass heavy tune with vocals from the Warlord Bounty Killer will be sure to have you caught up on some sort of speaker box whine.

3. Dillon Francis and Skrillex – “Bun Up The Dance”

It’s no shock that Skrillex would be on this list. Always having some Caribbean elements in has production he has had a massive year producing some of the biggest pop and dance tunes in the game and is currently holding the #2 record in the country. (which actually sounds like a dancehall record.) On “Bun Up The Dance,” he teams up with Dillon Francis another EDM heavy weight to create this dance floor smash.

2. Major Lazer – Blaze Up The Fire (feat. Chronixx)

Having started the works at early stages of their careers, it’s only right that they came together again for this blazing tune as both artist are peaking. This was not a single, but definitely one of my favorite tracks on the album. Massive respect to Major Lazer and Chronixx for keeping the fire burning.

1. Yellow Claw – Bun It Up Ft. Beenie Man

Even though this song is newly released, I have to give the #1 spot to the homies Yellow Claw. They had the biggest year of their career notching a #1 album on the billboard dance charts and this their second collaboration with the King of Dancehall, Beenie Man, is another dance floor banger!!

10. Noise Cans and Lady Bee feat. Mr. Vegas — “Bucka”

Just this month, I released my debut single “Bucka” with Lady Bee featuring Mr. Vegas. As much as I would like to include it on this list, it would be a little unfair, as I might have to give myself the number one spot! Run the tune below, and check the video (directed by LargeUp contributor Reid Van Renesse) here.
