Mixtape Mondays: MightyForce Sound, DJ Maga, Faction Sound

Words by DJ Arems

This week we’ve found a nice selection of mixes that touch on the main genres we focus on here at Large Up including dancehall, soca and the world premiere of a brand new reggae mix. Each of these are not to be missed so let’s get into it.

LargeUp Premiere: MightyForce Sound, When It Hits You: MightyForce Sound outta Los Angeles by way of Belize have put together a reggae mix that is top notch in every aspect. What stands out most is the selection of reggae music that Selectah Mike and Glamma D have drawn from to create a compilation of tracks that will definitely have you feeling the vibes. With a mixture of new and recent reggae hits, MightyForce selected some of the best chunes to have come out of late and masterfully mixed them, sprinkled with dope sound effects. Look for big big chunes from Busy Signal, Chronixx, Jah Cure, Collie Buddz, Christopher Martin, Romain Virgo and Tarrus Riley among others. When It Hits You is the type of mix that takes you away from where ever you are at the time – unless you’re sitting underneath a coconut tree on a beach somewhere already. Stream and download below or right here.

DJ Maga, Soca Feteish Volume 2: Soca has been spreading farther and farther throughout the world with its euphoric beats, and always-uplifting subject matter. Still, only a few songs seem to break through into the somewhat larger dancehall scene and beyond, but thankfully DJ Maga compiled a mix of all the latest soca tracks to get us ready for T&T Carnival this year. You’ll find it difficult not to buss a whine when this mix comes, on as all of soca’s newest and biggest chunes are laid out for you to get ready for the road. Soca Feteish Vol 2 is definitely not to be missed whether you’re just learning and trying to stay up on your soca, or already a soca warrior. Stream below or right here.

Faction Sound, Dancehall Saturday Night on Sirius XM The Joint – Jan 16, 2016: Sadly, there’s not much dancehall to be found on satellite radio but thankfully it can be found once a week on Sirius XM’s reggae channel The Joint where for one hour every Saturday, North America’s top Sounds guest host Dancehall Saturday Night. Repeat guests the Faction took over the show for the January 16th slot, and the four-man crew came with heavy crates. Deejay Theory starts off the show with the type of brand new remix he’s become known for as a pioneer on the tropical bass scene, and the mix only gets thicker from there. Myself, Iron Lyon and DJ Tanner all drop sets laced only with the newest and highest grade of dancehall hitting the streets right now and the results can only be described as “pure fire every time.” Stream below or right here.
