Miami, Florida’s own dEVOLVE (a.k.a. DJ Noodles) steps into the spotlight of next week’s 2016 Winter Music Conference. The DJ, known locally on HITS 97.3 FM, drops “Bubble Gum” featuring T.O.K. voicing a fast-paced romp of electronic dance music. Cue the dEVOLVE-produced track, and immediately the siren of synthesizers work like a shot of adrenaline—fuel for running the gauntlet of parties at WMC.
Besides the conventional and mainstream sound of “Bubble Gum” pounding a steady handclap into an anxious climax, T.O.K.’s call to action, “where mi gal dem deh!?” whips the track into a tailspin. The dancehall veterans take the lead directing the wining up of plumped-up bodies. Devolve’s T.O.K. collaboration follows his previous remix of “Bun It Up” by Yellow Claw and Beenie Man, and both are on trend with EDM using Caribbean overtones, popularized by Major Lazer. Remember Major Lazer dropped “Bubble Butt” on 2013’s Free the Universe as a summer anthem? “Bubble Gum” picks up where “Bubble Butt” left off. It makes sense why dEVOLVE’s take found a home with Jillionaire’s Feel Up Records, known for such diversity.
