As part of our Austin Island showcase at South by Southwest 2016 featuring the music of the U.S. Virgin Islands, LargeUp will host a screening of R. City’s documentary What Dreams Are Made Of this Thursday night, March 17th, at 6p.m.
Immediately following the movie is a Q+A with Timothy and Theron Thomas of R. City, followed by live performances from Jovi Rockwell, Prya, I Grade Dub, Pressure Busspipe, Verse Simmonds and, of course, R. City, along with DJs Delano Renaissance, DJ Gravy, Deejay Theory and Freaky Colectivo. (And you can expect a few special guests, too).
Thursday night’s screening will be only the second for What Dreams Are Made Of, which premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival. The documentary, which takes its name from R. City’s 2015 RCA/Kemosabe Records release by the same name, chronicles Timothy and Theron’s far-from-overnight journey from St. Thomas, USVI, to Miami, Atlanta and L.A. Charting their rise from poverty to their current status as one of the world’s most in-demand songwriting duos — and, now, artists with their own chart-topping single “Locked Away” — What Dreams Are Made Of tells the story of the brothers’ improbable rise in the face of great odds and adversity, through interviews with the artists themselves as well as friends, family and music-business names like Kelly Rowland, Akon and Verse Simmonds.
Watch a trailer for the movie below, and RSVP to largeup@gmail.com for entry to Thursday night’s screening at #SxSW.
