Get Ready for Crop Over 2016 with Jus D.’s Future Soca Anthem “Give It To Me”

Words by Jesse Serwer

What was once slow season for soca music — the spring — has become increasingly active. Already, the tunes for this year’s Crop Over, Spice Mas and other summer carnivals are rolling in. The latest entrant for Barbados’ building Crop Over season comes from a new artist, Jus D., with a new sound he’s calling future soca. “Give It To Me,” produced by Livity Movements’ Dev Kutta and Guyana’s DRWTHVN, blends elements of Bim’s bashment soca sound with a more pronounced EDM vibe than normal — hence the new genre tag.

“My sound is Future Soca and this record is an evolution of Barbados’ Bashment Soca energy,” explains Jus D., whose resume includes songwriting credits for Rupee and Mikey, among other top Bajan acts. Adds producer DRWTHVN: “The production is equal parts Soca, Dancehall, Afrobeats and EDM. It fits in line with the releases [Dev Kutta] and I have done this year for Busy Signal, I-Octane, Gordon Andres feat. T.O.K. and Noise Cans. Jus D. is on the same fused wave, so the record is a perfect storm.”

Run tune below, and decide for yourself:
