California’s Stick Figure and Jamaica’s Raging Fyah have been on the road together recently and, along the way, they found some time to combine their respective sounds. Originally written and recorded by Stick Figure’s Scott Woodruff for that band’s 2015 album, Set in Stone, “Shadow” became a favorite of Raging Fyah singer Kumar Bent during the groups’ U.S. tour in the Spring. On the last night of that trek, Kumar tracked the vocals in the back of the tour bus with Stick Figure’s Johnny Cosmic, who later remixed the rhythm track into an entirely new production. The result is this killer dub version, which you can now hear here for the very first time. Download the track right here, and hear it in LargeUp’s Now Things playlist on Apple Music.
“‘Shadow’ was always Kumar’s favorite song of ours we played live on the tour,” Woodruff says. “He was always walking around the venue singing it to himself so one day I asked him if he wanted to do a remix of the track, thinking he would do simple cover version using the original lyrics, but instead he dropped this killer freestyle off the top of his head and we were all blown away!”
Raging Fyah recently finished a tour of the U.S. West Coast with Protoje, and are set to hit Europe for another tour with Stick Figure in October. See the dates here.
