On “Mystic Strings,” Port Antonio, Jamaica-based producers DizTroy pair with vocalist and dancer Mystic Davis for a preview of their upcoming collaborative EP.
Shot in and around scenic “Portie,” the video brings the track — a bubbly fusion of dancehall, trap and upful guitar melodies — to life with scenes of pastel-colored rum shops, local dance crews and Mystic’s mesmerizing footwork.
Davis, who has lent her presence to videos by Vybz Kartel, Gnarls Barkley and Sean Kingston x Nicki Minaj, among others, has previously collaborated musically with Major Lazer — she appears on their 2013 Bruno Mars collaboration “Bubble Butt” — and Leftside, who featured her on the future dancehall banger “Want Yuh Body.” DizTroy Featuring Mystic Davis is her first body of work as an artist, and the first project from DizTroy, a newly formed duo consisting of Dale “Dizzle” Virgo, the in-house engineer at Port Antonio’s Geejam Studio, and Troy Baker, the son of veteran music executive and Geejam owner Jon Baker. We’re feeling the vibes on this one — it’s got a bit of a Grace Jones at Compass Point vibe to it. Let us know if you are, too.
The six-song EP drops October 7th. Pre-order it here.
