Pic of the Week: Nyla in Kingston, Jamaica

Photographer: Martei Korley
Location: Kingston, Jamaica
Styling: Fidge Fletcher/The Style Factor

Pic of the Week was one of the original LargeUp features: A series of dispatches from co-founder, creative director and chief photographer Martei Korley. Now, we’re bringing it back. Each Friday morning, we’ll share a different image illuminating the richness of the Caribbean experience.

Nyla strikes a pose on the bleachers backstage at the Youth View Awards at Kingston, Jamaica’s National Indoor Sports Complex in February. The dancehall-pop solo artist (and member of the group Brick and Lace, with her sister, Nyanda) had just come off stage from performing her hit song with Major Lazer, “Light It Up,” to choreography by LargeUp’s own Blacka Di Danca, who joined her onstage joined by the Danca Family. I thought these bleachers were the most interesting looking part of the venue, so I had her pose for me right there. — Martei Korley
