I’m really excited about my travels this year. I’m going to a lot of really cool places to teach dancehall classes. I recently came back from Brazil, Jamaica, and Singapore, and now I’m in Paris – this tour is about two months long! And, for the first time ever, I’ll be teaching in Puerto Rico!
Hip-hop pioneer Crazy Legs of the Rock Steady Crew keeps an annual event in Isabela, P.R., called the Puerto Rock Steady Music Festival and this year he’s adding a dancehall workshop to his event. It’s a huge honor to be added to such a high-caliber event with acts like Talib Kweli, and B-boys and breakdancers from all over the world. The biggest honor is to have the dance legend Crazy Legs himself personally invite me.
I actually recently found out that there’s a bit of a dancehall scene there, so I’m really excited to tap into it, and share a bit of my experience with them. There are going to be B-boy and breaking workshops at the event as well, so for me, Puerto Rock Steady is another opportunity to reach a new market and open up eyes to the beauty of dancehall culture. Everyone won’t have the chance to walk into a dancehall party in Kingston, so being invited to events where I can expose the culture to eyes that would have never gazed on it, those experiences are my biggest goals traveling as an instructor.
This is definitely an event not to miss, so if you can, you should take your next vacation in Puerto Rico with sun, music and dance amongst creative artists from all around the world. It’ll be four days of craziness. Book your travel here.
