EVENT: Sister Nancy + Friends at Brooklyn Bowl, Thursday May 25th

Sister Nancy is low-key having the best year ever in 2017. The lady dancehall pioneer, whose biggest tunes were recorded back in 1982, hasn’t released any new music, but she’s felt kinda ubiquitous since getting sampled by Kanye West on last year’s “Famous.” Pitchfork Media recently celebrated “Bam Bam,” a song Nancy didn’t learn was a hit until a decade and a half later (it never was one in Jamaica, but took on a life of its own in the States and abroad), as the greatest dancehall song of all-time, while this write-up in The New Yorker touted its credentials in the preferred magazine of the intellectual elite. And she’s been killing stages from Miami to Jamaica.

Fresh off her recent appearances at Rebel Salute and at Winter Music Conference, LargeUp and Blackwell Rum present Sister Nancy, backed by a full live band, in her first-ever New York City headlining show, at Brooklyn Bowl, on Thursday, May 25th. Nancy will be performing a full set with a live band,  joined by the Rice and Peas DJs (DJ Gravy, Max Glazer/Federation Sound, Micro Don and Orijahnal Vibez) and selectress Queen Majesty.

Buy your tickets here, and get hyped for the show with these video clips from her recent live performance at Boiler Room New York’s The Nice Up and our LargeUp TV webisode with Nancy live from SoHo House in NYC.
