Mixtape Mondays: Frankie Paul x Fast Forward Sound, DJ Sensilover, Lukie Wyniger

Words by DJ Arems

This week we bring you an all European edition of Mixtape Mondays with Tribute to Frankie Paul from Sweden, conscious dancehall vibes outta Italy and fresh dancehall dubs and remixes via Switzerland. The weather is finally nice so roll down your windows and blast these ones.

Fast Forward Sound, Frankie Paul Tribute Mix: Late last week the reggae world lost a legend. On May 18th singjay Frankie Paul passed away in hospital at the age of 52 after suffering kidney failure. Born blind, Frankie Paul grew up in Kingston Jamaica where he always aspired to be a singer. He had his sight partially restored in hospital but still spent is early life at the Salvation Army School for the Blind. After meeting and singing for Stevie Wonder who was in town for a show in the 1970s, the R&B mega star prompted Paul to seriously pursue his singing career. The encouragement pushed him forward and he went on to become a major reggae star in the 1980s and 90s releasing hits like Worries in the Dance, Sara, and Tidal Wave. We usually only feature brand new mixtapes on Mixtape Mondays but with the passing of this unforgettable reggae crooner, we managed to find a Frankie Paul Tribute Mix put out a few years ago by Sweden’s Fast Forward Sound that show cases his immense talent. The music is timeless and we encourage you to get familiar once again with the legacy of Frankie Paul. He will be sadly missed. Stream below:

DJ Sensilover, Stonger Now: Music lovers are used to looking at reggae for conscious vibes while turning to dancehall for the slackness but many dancehall artists have been releasing uplifting tracks as well and while they might not be as easy to dance too, they definitely have that dancehall feel and appeal. Dj Sensilover of Irie Soldiers outta Italy has managed to compile a mix of smooth tracks with a message and the results are relaxation bliss. All of this music is fresh off the press and there’s some big dubs mixed in as well. Bun out corruption, all badmind and babylon and stream below:

Lukie Wyniger, Unforgettable: Lukie Wyniger has been on a tear lately releasing two quality mixtapes within the span of a month, while clashing in Europe, doing shows and hosting his weekly radio show, “Reggae Special,” on Swiss National Radio. This new mix comes in celebration of his win at the Anything Goes Clash at  “Juggle Ina East 2017” which took place in Berlin. Expect to hear a ton of dope dublates from artists like Kranium, Shenseea, Masicka, and Jahmiel among others with some wicked remixes Lukie cooked up as well. Another super solid mix from the man they call Uncle Pengpeng. Stream below:
