Mixtape Mondays: Labor Day Edition with Tiger, Faction Sound, DJ Roy

Words by DJ Arems

It’s Labor Day which means you should be relaxing, enjoying the last moments of Summer. It also means, if you live in New York, that Carnival festivities are beginning to come to a close and you may be in rough shape from all the celebrating. Thankfully we’ve found just the right blend of mixtapes to keep your Summer steady blazing, while you step into Fall.

Tiger, No Visa Necessary Vol. 3: Ready For D Road: New York’s West Indian American Day Carnival parade is happening right now and you might still have time to get down to Brooklyn’s Eastern Parkway to join in the Labor Day celebrations. September marks the end of summer carnival parties in North America and Europe and Carnival Tabanca slowly begins to set in. Thankfully, Los Angeles DJ Tiger has blessed us with his latest installment of the “No Visa Necessary” mix series. Ready For D Road is a collection of road mix soca chunes from Trinidad, St. Lucia, and Barbados among others, and will definitely keep you jumping and whining for weeks to come. A most necessary mix for soca warriors world wide. Stream below:

Faction Sound, Dancehall Saturday Night on Sirius XM, August 2017: For all the different kinds of music you can hear on Sirius XM, dancehall is not really one of them. There is talk of dancehall playing a bigger role in their satellite radio lineup but, for now, you can only hear dancehall for one hour, once a week on Saturday nights on their Channel 42, The Joint. A couple of weeks ago, Faction Sound took over the air waves for Dancehall Saturday night with Deejay Theory, Tanner, Iron Lyon and myself combining to drop 60 minutes of pure fire. This episode contains brand-new dancehall, exclusive remixes and dubplates including juggling of what are sure to be some of the top 10 riddims of 2017. Essential listening for all dancehall heads. Stream below:

DJ Roy, Savage Lifestyle: Jamaica’s DJ Roy stays consistently putting out solid mixtapes and Savage Lifestyle is another banger to add to his repertoire. This one sums up all of the big chunes that hit the streets in the month of August and includes the new Busta Rhymes track “Girlfriend” featuring Vybz Kartel and Tory Lanez that’s been creating a heavy buzz even since it dropped last week. If you haven’t been keeping up on all the latest dancehall badness, this one is a must. Stream below:
