2017 has in many ways been a dark and challenging year, but thankfully reggae music is always there to uplift the people – and this was a great year for that! The one like DJ Shirkhan representing the Scandanavian juggling machine Safari Sound has compiled a selection of some of this years very best standouts in the roots & culture, one drop and conscious reggae music category, heavily peppered with the signature Safari dubplates we all know and love.
Shirkhan must’ve read my mind from the first tune leading off with perhaps my favorite reggae cut of this year (in dub form) Samory I’s “Rasta Nuh Gangsta” produced by legend Rory Stone Love. The mix is strictly vibes for the next hour after that with big singles like Kabaka Pyramid’s “Can’t Breathe“, Protoje’s “Blood Money” and of course Estelle and Tarrus Riley’s “Love Like Ours” joined with sleepers like Pentateuch Movement’s “Punchinella” and riddims like “67” featuring 14-year old sensation Wayne J’s “Murderer“. If you’re looking for a crucial wrap up of this year in reggae music than look no further. Accurate!
