Coming in hot! Yaadcore is already a roots reggae hero thanks to his mystical Dubwise Jamaica sessions and Reggae Aroma mixtape series. With “No Fenke Fenke,” his debut single, he adds another dimension to his repertoire, stepping into the role of producer.
A joint release between Yaadcore’s own 12 Yaad label and Delicious Vinyl Island, the new Caribbean music imprint from legendary L.A. record label Delicious Vinyl, the debut single features Kabaka Pyramid and Shanique Marie (Equiknoxx Music) trading lyrics over a modern twist on classic reggae sounds. “No Fenke Fenke” is an old-time Jamaican admonition, meaning “no stupidness,” and that’s just what you get with this authentic slice of rub-a-dub niceness. Vibes!
“The idea of the song is to maintain a rub-a-dub sound, ole skool but fresh,” Yaadcore says of the tune. “‘No Fenke Fenke’ means no low-quality, nothing fake. Means you want strictly the best. I’m all about producing feelgood music, and this comes in different progressions and sounds. I was always wanting to work with both artists, but the collaboration wasn’t planned. Definitely five thanks for their contribution and the way everything turned out.”
