Megative are a reggae and dub-inspired post-punk band in the tradition of The Clash or, even more precisely, Big Audio Dynamite. Just as Mick Jones’ post-Clash outfit counted reggae luminary Don Letts in its membership, Megative features the vocal talents of all-around NYC dancehall legend Screechy Dan. On “No Fear,” they incorporate the deejaying talents of another New York-based, Caribbean talent in Trini-born lyricist Metric Man. The result is an atmospheric clash of sounds and a mission statement. their upcoming debut album.
“There’s a space between negative and positive that is more powerful than either, and we call that Megative,” explains the group’s co-founder Gus Van Go. “It’s a place where fear dissipates and energy resounds like a three-story subwoofer…. that’s what ‘No Fear’ is about.”
