Lila Iké’s “Second Chance” is a Rub-a-Dub Love Song for The Ages

We first met Lila Iké last year when she dropped her debut singles “Biggest Fan” and “Gotti Gotti” (which premiered right here) and it was immediately clear that this young singer out of Manchester, Jamaica was going places. Today, she returns with her third single, “Second Chance,” and an accompanying video — her first — via Protoje’s In.Digg.Nation Collective and Delicious Vinyl Island. (The same partnership that brought us Sevana’s breezy summer bop “Second Chance” about a week ago…)

“Second Chance” is a pleading love song, with Lila begging for romantic forgiveness over a familiar riddim. (If you know, you know…) The track shows her commitment to lyrical diversity — “Biggest Fan” was an earnest tribute to her mother, while “Gotti Gotti” offered social commentary — as well as to early ’80s dubwise soundtracks. Expect to hear big things soon from Ms. Iké, who makes her international debut tonight at Uppsala Festival in Sweden, before hitting the road with Protoje on the U.S. West Coast from Aug. 30 through Sept. 8.

Listen to “Second Chance” and watch the clip (directed/shot by Nickii Kane) below, and stream it on your streaming service of choice via this link.
