We may be in the heat of summer, but class is officially in session with this new tune from Runkus featuring Royal Blu. “Jusschool.” comes in like a marching band, with a critical message to badman culture in Jamaica. The duo deliver a hard-hitting social commentary, sharing their views on social issues of the island, from illiteracy to teenage pregnancy, as they call on crime to just cool.
Recorded at SmartKid Records in Portmore, and produced by Iotosh and Runkus, the lyrically potent record is a call to action for Jamaicans to ease off the crime and violence. Runkus and Royal Blu’s last collaboration, “Skin Toned” (the video for which premiered on LargeUp) was a mellow yet meaningful look into racism, colorism and classism. “Jusschool.” is a lot more live and direct, with a feel that would par nicely on a syllabus with tracks like Protoje’s “Blood Money” and “Kontraband” by Kabaka Pyramid and Jr. Gong.
Pull up a seat and take notes with this exclusive first listen. “Jusschool.” is available on Apple Music and all streaming platforms today.
