Start your week with a fresh batch of great new mixes for your audio fulljoyment. Safe to say the big news in Jamaican music recently is that dancehall artist Buju Banton was released from custody here in the US and just returned home. So we’ve got an excellent all-Buju mix by DJ Crooks, followed by two eclectic mixes from Fifty Kaliba Sound and DJ Arems of Faction Sound. Happy Monday. Let’s do this.
DJ Crooks x Buju Banton – Free Buju Mix
Buju is free! It’s not an easy road, but at least we can finally celebrate properly with this brand new mix of the popular deejay’s chunes mixed by LA’s own DJ Crooks. Buju returned to Jamaica last week, having served 7 long years in a US jail on some drug charges. Crooks marked the occasion by putting together nearly an hour and a half of Gargamel magic. What a day when we walkin’ down Redemption Street.
Fifty Kaliba Sound – Forever Upful Vol1
Check the latest mix from Fifty Kaliba Sound, outta Miami. A lot of people really loved their rootsy Global Medz Vol4 mix, myself included, so of course I was excited to check out this new mix of theirs. Forever Upful Vol 1 goes in a slightly different direction, and explores upbeat dancehall, Afrobeats, and some latin sounds too. Another dope mix from Fiya Yout that I’m going to have on heavy rotation here for a while.
DJ Arems – DJcity Podcast Mix
Vancouver’s own DJ Arems provides his own equally eclectic 30-minute ride which fluidly blends new dancehall, Afrobeats, Latin, and hip-hop. Arems is an active member of the 16-year-strong Faction Sound crew. He’s also a long-time contributor to Mixtape Mondays. He recently recorded this fun mix in a live take for digital record pool website DJcity.
