Words by Desmond Alphonso
Walshy Fire has been dropping jam after jam each week leading up to the release of his debut album, ABENG, out next Friday, June 7th, on Mad Decent.
Following the initial drop of โNo Negative Vibesโ featuring Alkaline and Runtown on May 17, last week saw the arrival of โRound of Applauseโ pairing Nigerian rapper Ice Prince with JA swagga don Demarco. Today, itโs โXcellent,โ which pits Ice Prince alongside Jamaican lyrical assassin, Masicka, for what Walshy describes as โthe most hardcore dancehall song on the album.โ
Check out an exclusive premiere of the โXcellentโ lyric video below:
โIce Prince was sending me demos of stuff he was working on, and โXcellentโ was one of the tracks,โ Walshy tells us. โTo me, itโs the most hardcore dancehall song on the album. Just because of that, and Masicka being one of my favorite dancehall artists of the moment, I immediately hit his team up and said, โYo, mi have a hardcore dancehall song and it need a hardcore deejay โpon it.โ Man, did Masicka deliver. When I tell you, the song just level up. Every time I hear the song, I just want to stand on a driving car. I just want to talk so much shit and overdo it. I wanna be soโฆ nuff. โ
โXcellentโ is available now on all streaming services.
Look out for โCall Meโ featuring Kranium and Mr. Eazi, the fourth and final single, dropping this Monday, June 3rd.
