In June 2019, we lost our friend Anil Lopez, better known as the legendary dancehall MC Micro Don, at the untimely age of 38.
A Guyanese Puerto Rican from East Flatbush who stood around five feet tall, Micro had a unique swag and always shocked people as the little guy with the big voice. His seemingly effortless ability to make people laugh, dance and forget all about their problems made him the centerpiece of more epic events than we can remember.
An original member of the Rice and Peas Party, host at many other LargeUp events, and founder of his own party, It’s Just Dancing, this unique MC couldn’t stop sharing his joy and passion for music. As a result, he helped the bring the dancehall experience from the fringes to NYC’s mainstream nightlife circuit and beyond. As we process his transition, we aim to honor him and keep his voice present for years to come.
Our Belizean friend and esteemed colleague, DJ Rampage, also a close friend and collaborator of Micro’s, has put together a heartwarming tribute with his international crew, Rampage Sound Global. Rampage describes Micro Don as “the heart beat of our sound, the biggest voice bar none.”
Never one to miss out on the fun, Micro Don has come along for another mix, so press play, enjoy, and give thanks for life…
