Alright, massive: There are only two and a half months left of this one-of-a-kind year. The energy taking us into fall has us craving warmer, heartier foods, slowing down the pace a bit, and reaping all the ripe fruits of summer. With selectas putting in the overtime, Mixtape Mondays is here to harvest the vibes.
Nasheen Fire – New Ting Dem Mixtape (Dancehall Hip Hop 2020)
This mix opens with a signature blaze from Nasheen Fire, bere vibes on vibes. With over two of hours of music, the tape blends dancehall and hip-hop, showcasing the reciprocal link between the two genres. The first hour covers the best in 2020 hip-hop, with tunes such as “The Woo,” from Pop Smoke featuring 50 Cent and Roddy Rich, Lil’ Baby’s “All In” and Summer Walker’s “Over It” blended into a full dancehall segment. The latter segment features songs such as Alien Mode’s “Takeova,” a “Hondaa” dublplate from TWani mixed with fire anthem “Life’s a Holiday” by Johnny Blaze, Stadic and Christopher Martin… and much more heat. Keeping things blazing is Bayou International’s DJ T-Roy, with his newest mix, Turn Up the Sound (Reggae 2020). The tape opens with Yaadcore’s “The Calling,” mixed with Swiss producer Top Rankin’s Yaadcore feature, “Tension” setting the tone for some upful reggae bashments from the Bayou. Up-top moments in the mix are Chezidek’s “Because I’m Black,” mixed with his honorable single “March,” a spotlight on the movement for equal rights and justice, and a testament to reggae’s crucial role in the mix. No pun intended. More big vibes include Busy Signal’s “Jamaica Jamaica,” mixed with Koffee’s “Pressure,” Protoje’s “Same So,” with Lila Ike’s “Solitude” and more fire. Stream Turn Up the Sound here:
